BAKERSFIELD--- The California Baptist University wrestling team faced off against the Cal State Bakersfield of the PAC-12 in a non-conference match in Bakersfield. The Lancers looked to avenge a tight loss they suffered in their previous meeting in 2022, in which Bakersfield won 20-19. CBU achieved this goal with an entertaining back-and-forth win over the Roadrunners 23-17.
The Lancers picked up their third win of the season and their second dual road victory while handing the Roadrunners their fifth home loss. CBU won six of the ten bouts on the afternoon with a pin, two technical falls, a major decision, and one decision.
The Lancers and Roadrunners engaged in a back-and-forth affair that saw five lead changes and two ties.
Hunter Leake kickstarted the dual for CBU with a resounding 16-0 technical fall victory over his opponent. Leake accumulated 12 nearfall points and three minutes of riding time in the match.
Chaz Hallmark tied the match at eight by securing his riding time point with three seconds on the clock. The victory was Hallmark's second dual win of the season and key to the Lancer win.
Frank Almaguer and
Peter Acciardi achieved season highs for match points, dominating their competition to earn a technical fall and a major decision for CBU. Acciardi racked up six takedowns in his dual and forced his opponent into two stall points.
Caden Gerlach secured the victory for CBU with a pin over Mateo Morales of Cal State Bakersfield. The fall was Gerlach's seventh of the season and put the match out of reach for the Roadrunners.
