CBU Track Puts Forth Impressive Showing on Day 2 of Bryan Clay

AZUSA--- The Bryan Clay Invitational continued into day two for the California Baptist University track team as they raced ten athletes in five different events.
Rikus Van Niekerk kicked off the evening races in the men's 5000M and finished top-five in his heat with a time of 14:02.61. The time was a personal best for Niekerk, and stamped his name into eighth in the CBU record books.
Valentin Soca had the most impressive feat of the evening and of the season for the Lancers in the men's 5000M. Soca placed second in his heat, narrowly behind Nico Young of Northern Arizona, a highly-touted runner who holds the second-best 5K time in NCAA history. Soca's time of 13:30.68 shattered the program record by nearly 11 seconds and came 0.32 seconds within Young's time.
Giedrius Valincius and Christian Ricketts raced in the same heat in the 5000M event, with both registering top-5 finished within their heat. Valincius finished second with a time of 13:46.77, placing him third in the program's top-10 list. Ricketts came in close behind at 13:47.43, a new personal best that put him in fifth in program history.
Arturs Medveds finished out the evening with a 13:57.13 time, which was good enough for seventh in his heat and was three seconds better than his previous best that he set last season.
On the women's side, Yasna Petrova continued her strong season with an impressive showing in the 5000M race. Petrova claimed fifth in her heat with a time of 16:12.64. The time was a new personal best and vaulted her into third in the program record books. Maelle Porcher found similar success in the 5000M, recording a time of 16:07.16, which shattered her previous best by 19 seconds and put her in second in the Lancer record books.
The Bryan Clay Invitational will conclude tomorrow evening for CBU, with their final event slated to begin at 9:30 p.m. in the women's 1500m.
