RIVERSIDE – The 2023-24 Western Athletic Conference basketball season will begin earlier than ever before as California Baptist University women's basketball is set to start league play on November 28th in Cedar City, Utah, against Southern Utah University.
With the departure of New Mexico State and Sam Houston to Conference USA this summer, the WAC now sits at a nicely balanced 11 programs. That adjustment does away with the unbalanced schedule of 2022-23 and will see all teams face each other twice, once hosting and once on the road, for a total of 20 conference matches.
The Lancers open on the road in a WAC Tournament Championship Game rematch against the Thunderbirds, an early test for Head Coach Jarrod Olson and his revamped squad. CBU will start the WAC slate with back-to-back road challenges, taking on Utah Tech the following week on December 6th at Utah Tech.
The first WAC homestand comes on the other side of the New Year, as Utah Valley and Seattle U visit Riverside on January 4th and 6th, respectively. The Lancers will host the first of two triple-play homestands to close January, hosting Southern Utah, UTRGV, and Stephen F. Austin on the 20th, 25th, and 27th.
The Lancers will host a single home game on Saturday, February 10th, ahead of the second tri-stand, where Grand Canyon, Abilene Christian, and Tarleton with come to town on the 17th, 22nd, and 24th of February. The final home game of the season, which will include Senior Day festivities, will be planned for March 7th when the Mustangs of UT Arlington come to town.
Amongst the home contests will be a pair of Texas trips to visit Tarleton and ACU, and SFA and UTRGV, respectively, as well as a long travel week to start February, which will send the Lancers to Seattle on Saturday the 3rd and Arlington on Thursday the 8th. The Lancer regular season closes on the road in Phoenix as CBU will face off against GCU in the final slated contest of 2024 before the WAC Tournament starts in Las Vegas on March 10th.
