RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's golf team heads to Idaho this weekend to play in the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga. This will be the first time the Lancers compete in this tournament.
The Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational has been hosted by Gonzaga for the last six years and was won in the previous year by Sacramento State. Other recent tournament winners include Hawaii, Gonzaga, and Illinois. The course boasts views of the lake from nearly every hole and was created to offer a stimulating round of golf in a pristine environment. The par for the course is 71, riddled with several five-stroke holes. The field for the tournament includes CSU Bakersfield, British Columbia, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Louisiana Monroe, North Dakota State, San Francisco, Seattle, South Dakota, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and Wichita State.
The Lancers are coming off third place finish at the Payne Stewart Memorial. Sofia Chabon led the pack and finished first, earning her first career individual tournament win after she shot under par every round of the tournament and finished eight-under for the lowest 54-hole total score in program history. Pusanisa Ekkantrong debuted for the Lancers at the Payne Stewart Memorial and finished ninth out of 99 golfers, shooting a two-under-par 217 final score.
"We are excited to go to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. This is a great field and an amazing course," says head coach Marc Machado. "Our sole focus heading into this tournament is focusing on the things that are within our control."
Traveling for the tournament will be Damini Law Ghanshyani, Esther Lee, Samantha Dizon, Ekkantrong, and Chabon. Live scoring will be through SpikeMark, and results will be updated at the end of each round.
