CBU Opens Play Against Two Top-5 Teams at MPSF Invitational

LOS ANGELES – Friday's action in the pool saw some tough matchups for California Baptist men's water polo as the Lancers took on #T-4 Princeton and #T-4 Stanford at the highly touted MPSF Invitational. The Lancers fell in both contests, 16-8 and 20-10, respectively, to move to 6-6 on the season.

The tournament bracket format leaves tomorrow's opponent unknown until midday, as the Lancers are scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Pomona-Pitzer vs. Santa Clara. Those teams face off at 11:00 a.m. at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.

#T-4 PRINCETON 16 – #14 CBU 8

Matt Olsen opened scoring for the game, putting CBU up 1-0 within the first minute of play. The Tigers answered with a pair of their own, ending the first period with a slim 4-3 advantage. Princeton grew their lead before the half with a 5-2 second period. The second half was more of the same as Princeton won the latter half 7-2 to reach the final 16-8 score.

Olsen led the Lancers with two goals, while Princeton's Roko Pozaric, the reigning Northeast Water Polo Conference Player of the Week, led all scorers with six. Starting goalkeeper Trevor Benge put up a strong defense, stopping nine Tiger shots in three periods of work. Sophomore William Whitstone finished the game in the cage, allowing two goals while blocking three shots.

#T-4 STANFORD 20 - #14 CBU 10

Stanford wasted no time taking control of the day's second game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first period. Senior Caleb Teraoka would put an end to the Cardinal run, but the lead was established and never relented.

Teraoka, Marcus Lodewyk, and Cameron Cullen all recorded a pair of scores against Stanford and Thomas de Wit, recording one goal with two assists. Benge, Whitstone, and Trevor Alamilo all spent time in the cage against the Cardinal, combining for nine saves.
