Griffin, Leake Record Pins as the Lancers Take on the Bison in Fargo

FARGO--- The California Baptist University wrestling team began its Dakota road trip with a trip to Fargo to take on the North Dakota State Bison. The Bison would win seven of the ten matches in the dual to capture the 25-15 victory.
The contest was the fourth for the Lancers in BIG 12 action and the second for the Bison. The loss for CBU drops them to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Elijah Griffin and Hunter Leake started CBU off with 12 quick points, pinning their opponents in the 125 and 133 lb matches. Griffin's pin over Ryan Henningsen came in under 20 seconds, the fastest of the season for the Lancers. Griffin has now claimed victory in three of the last four duals and has won eight of his last ten matches. Leake followed up Griffin with a pin of his own over Fernando Barreto. Leake and Barreto were virtually scoreless through two periods, but a third-period takedown by Leake led to the pin, the first by Leake in a dual this season.
The Bison would respond in force, winning the next four matches in the dual to take the lead 16-12 heading into the 184lb bout. Nathan Haas stopped the bleeding for CBU with a 7-2 decision victory over Adam Cherne of North Dakota State. Haas has now won back-to-back matches in duals for CBU and recorded a pair of takedowns in his win tonight.
The Bison would win the final matches of the night to secure their victory, winning by decision and a fall to record the 25-15 result. The Bison would wrestle two ranked wrestlers at 141 and 174 compared to one for CBU.
