CBU Maintains Perfect Home Record During Second Day of The Joust

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist men's water polo team concluded The Joust Tournament with a perfect record after collecting another pair of wins on Saturday at their home pool. The Lancers bested Fresno Pacific and Concordia University Irvine, taking down the Sunbirds 16-10 and the Eagles 17-9. CBU improves to 14-8 on the season and has accrued a six-game winning streak while maintaining a perfect home record.

CBU 16 - FPU 10

The Lancers started the day out strong with an immediate goal from Logan Puhl to get things going in the first game of the day. Fresno Pacific put up a stiff fight from the very start of the match, trailing by a lone goal after the first period. Kevin Rosa's squad tried to build a heftier lead in the second period, but FPU continued to match the Lancers and were down by just two after the half.

It was in the third period that the Lancers were able to lockdown the Sunbirds defensively and limited the visitors to just one goal while piling on six of their own. CBU flexed its deep bench with six different goal-scorers in the third quarter, but FPU did not go down without a fight. The Sunbirds outscored California Baptist in the final frame, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.

CBU 17 - CUI 9

It was Puhl again in the second match of the day against the Concordia Irvine Eagles to be the first to dent the twine for an early CBU lead. The Lancers would go on to limit CUI to just five goals during the first half while putting away ten for a five-goal lead. Luca Imbiolo, Andrea Nuzzo, and Puhl would all pick up a brace during the first 16 minutes.

The Eagles would come back stronger in the third period and outscore the Lancers, but it was not enough to overcome CBU for the victory. California Baptist nailed the twine four times in the final frame while blanking the Eagles for the squad's 14th win of the year.

The Lancers will now turn their attention to another home match on Wednesday evening, where they will welcome Loyola Marymount University to the Lancer Aquatic Center for the first match of West Coast Conference play.
