LITTLE ROCK, AK--- The California Baptist women's golf traveled to Arkansas this week to participate in the Diamante Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Little Rock, Arkansas. After a rocky start, the Lancers made a stunning comeback during the second and third days of the tournament to finish in 5th of 18 programs. Freshman Lisa Shimmon and junior Samantha Dizon both carded the best finishes for CBU, tying for sixth after shooting 5-under par.
California Baptist kicked off the Diamante Intercollegiate by going 13-over par as a team on the first day, with no Lancers shooting even or under par. With some adjustments, the squad returned stronger on the second and posted a team score of 7-under par to jump from 13th to 7th place. The third day was even better for Marc Machado's team, who posted an 8-under-par final mark led by Shimmon and Dizon.
Shimmon led the way during the second day of the tournament for the Lancers after carding a 67 to finish the round, while Dizon shot 3-under. The duo flipped scores on the final day and secured a sixth-place finish while lifting their team to its third top-five finish this fall. Pusanisa Ekkantrong also posted a pair of strong final days, finishing in 15th after shooting 1-under par across the three rounds. Nana Ishikawa secured 76th place, and Burberry Zhang ended her time in Arkansas in 64th.
Machado's group ends the fall tournament schedule with one team championship under their belts and three top-five finishes across four tournaments. Dizon earned her first individual tournament win this season at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational.
The Lancers will return to the course in January as they host Cal State Fullerton for the SoCal Ryder Cup before kicking off their championship season at The Wigwam Preview hosted by Utah Valley in early February.
