PAYSON, AZ--- The California Baptist women's golf program headed to Northern Arizona for the Western Athletic Conference Championship Tournament and started the first round strong, finishing in second as a team. Abilene Christian paces the conference in first, while Utah Valley holds third place to make up the top three clubs of the tournament.
The Rim Golf Course has proved to be a tough course, both on and off the fairways. The pace of play for 18 holes rounds out to about five hours and the hilly landscape makes for a long day on the course. Nevertheless, the Lancers persevered and battled the difficult landscape to a team score of 299 through the first round.

Chabon tallied a pair of birdies and came out even with par on the back nine of the course, while Ekkantrong remained consistent through the day with 14 holes remaining even or under par. The pair of CBU golfers finished tied for fifth through day one, leading the Riverside squad.
Esther Lee had a solid day on the course as well, ending 4-over par, and Samantha Dizon ended her first round of the weekend in 17th with a 77 score. Burberry Zhang rounded out the day for Lancers with an 8-over par, good for a 30th-place finish.
