
Dizon Leads Lancers to Double Titles in Utah

EDEN, UT--- The California Baptist women's golf team opened their 2024-2025 campaign strong after securing a team and individual win at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational hosted by Weber State. Three Lancers finished in the top five, while the team secured the first victory of the season over 11 other squads.
Samantha Dizon earned her second collegiate individual tournament win on Tuesday morning after flying through the first two rounds of the tournament on Monday morning and sitting at the top of the standings. Heavy rains in the Eden area forced Webber State to cancel the third round of the two-day affair, giving Dizon her first individual tournament win of the season. After carding a 74 on her first round, the junior captain improved by four strokes through her second pass and scored a low 70 to push her to the top of the leaderboard. The final 144 score ultimately secured Dizon the win and also helped Marc Machado's team as a whole.
Pusanisa Ekkantrong delivered a strong performance at her first tournament of the year after coming off an impressive freshman season. The now sophomore finished her Kelsey Chugg Invitational in fourth and maintained a top-five positioning through both rounds. Ekkantrong fired rounds of 72 and 73 for a 145 final score. Burberry Zhang also kicked off her sophomore season with a sixth-place finish after scoring 150 (+6). True freshman Lisa Shimmon ended her first collegiate tournament in 25th out of 70 golfers, going over par by 12 strokes. Diletta Facchini rounds out the Lancer's scorecard after finishing in 52nd.
Dizon's individual win is her first of the the season and is also Machado's 20th individual champion at CBU. The team win also accounts for Machado's 18th team victory at the helm of CBU women's golf. The Lancers will now turn their attention to the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invite in Washington from September 30th through October 1st for their second tournament of the fall season.
