Leake Earns a Match Win as CBU Takes on Wyoming in Laramie

LARAMIE, WY--- The California Baptist University wrestling team finished a two-match road trip with a visit to Laramie, Wyoming, to take on the Wyoming Cowboys in a BIG 12 dual on Saturday night. The Cowboys would dominate the day and defend its home mat 37-3 by winning nine of the ten matches, with the lone CBU win coming from Hunter Leake at 133lbs.
The dual began at 197lbs, with Eli Sheeren facing 2024 NCAA qualifier Joseph Novak. Novak earned the Cowboys bonus points right off the bat, earning the technical fall and giving Wyoming an early 5-0 lead. The Cowboys would put seven more points on the board in the ensuing two matchups, earning bonus points at 125lbs and a decision at heavyweight. Hunter Leake would stop the early bleeding with a gritty 1-0 decision over Stockton O'Brien. Leake's second-period escape would prove to be the difference in a competitive match against the redshirt junior for the Cowboys.
Wyoming would pick itself right back up and earn bonus points in the next two matches and would finish off the dual with a trio of decisions for the 37-3 final.
