USAFA, Colo. --- Three first-half goals paved the way for a successful outing in Colorado, as the Lancers defeated Air Force on Thursday night. With the 3-0 victory, the Lancers have pushed their win streak to three and are unbeaten in four straight.
The Lancers wasted no time in tacking a one onto the scoreboard. Sophomore Blake D'Agostino netted CBU's first goal of the night, a right-footed strike, less than five minutes in. The goal was D'Agostino's eighth of the season.
CBU's second goal came 15 minutes later, this one off the foot of Haroun Conteh to give the Lancers a 2-0 advantage. Conteh's goal was his first and came off an assist from Tizian Marth. Marth has produced a point in four of the Lancers' five WAC matches, and is coming off a brace in Utah last week, which earned him WAC Player of the Week.
The next Lancer brace gets credited to D'Agostino as he netted his second goal of the night in the 33rd minute, giving CBU a 3-0 lead. D'Agostino's goal came after the Lancers were awarded a penalty. The sophomore striker is now 5-for-5 on penalty attempts, and his nine goals are the fourth most by a CBU player in their Division I era.
CBU kept the pressure going in the second half, but ultimately the three tallies were all to come. The Lancers ended the night with 22 shots.
"We know this can be a difficult place to play so we really emphasized a good start to the game and the guys delivered," said head coach Coe Michaelson. "It was good to use the whole squad and for the most part we passed the ball well tonight. It's important now that we remain focused, because we have a very difficult game back home on Sunday."
For goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego, the shutout is his fourth of the season. Do Rego wrapped up Thursday's win with three saves.
Air Force goalkeeper Brody Smith finished with five saves against eight CBU attempts on frame.
Results around the WAC were kind to the Lancers on Thursday. CBU entered the night in a four-way tie for first place. Utah Tech, the Lancers' next opponent, tied in their match with Grand Canyon. San Diego State scored a late goal to earn a draw with San Jose State.
At 3-1-1, the Lancers now have sole possession of first place.
The Lancers will be back in Riverside for their home finale on Sunday as Utah Tech comes to town. It will be Senior Night for the Lancers, with five seniors being recognized before kick-off.
