RIVERSIDE --- The finale of the Lancers' home regular season schedule has arrived, as CBU will be in Riverside on Sunday night for Senior Night. With the postseason chase heating up, Sunday's matchup with Utah Tech could solidify seeding for the Lancers, as they enter the weekend in sole possession of first place in the WAC.
CBU sits 3-1-1 in conference matches, and with their victory against Air Force on Thursday, the Lancers took over sole possession of first place with two matches to go. The Lancers came into the night in a four-way tie for first, but each team deadlocked with CBU recorded a draw, giving the Lancers some breathing room.
Utah Tech was one of those teams tied for first place. Their draw with Grand Canyon helped CBU twice, as GCU was also in that logjam at the top of the standings. San Diego State, the fourth team in the tie, benefited from an 89th-minute penalty goal to record a draw against San Jose State.
The Lancers, on the other hand, were victorious on Thursday night. CBU scored three times in the first half, two off the foot of Blake D'Agostino, giving the Lancers their third win in a row. Haroun Conteh scored CBU's other goal off an assist from Tizian Marth.
Marth now has points in four of the Lancers' five WAC matches.
D'Agostino's Thursday night brace snapped a four-match goalless streak, which subsequently followed a seven-match scoring streak that matched the program's Division I record. The sophomore striker's nine goals are second most in the WAC, trailing only Junior Diouf of GCU with 12.
Goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego is coming off of his fourth shutout of the season, the fourth most in the WAC. He racked up three saves in the win, giving him 53 on the season, which is the most in the conference.
Utah Tech led late in their Thursday night meeting with Grand Canyon. After a GCU goal in the 31st minute gave the Lopes the lead, goals from UT's Taylor Rogers and Mitch Williams put the Trailblazers ahead with 25 minutes remaining. A penalty goal leveled the contest with just over five minutes to go.
Sunday night's match will be part of a doubleheader at the CBU Soccer Stadium. Women's Soccer will open the night with their senior match at 5 p.m. against Southern Utah.
Five seniors from the CBU men's side will be recognized before kickoff: Jan Quispel, Adolfo Pino, Kieran Robson, Damian Arguello, and Karl Netzell. Tickets for Senior Night are on sale HERE.
