MSOC Preview: Lancers Begin WAC Tournament Run Wednesday vs. San Jose State

RIVERSIDE --- CBU's opponent for the WAC semifinals is known, as a 4-0 win for San Jose State on Sunday evening set up a matchup between the Lancers and Spartans. With the right to play in the WAC Championship Match on the line, CBU will begin its run at a third conference tournament title on Wednesday evening.
The 2025 WAC Tournament kicked off on Sunday with a pair of matches in Riverside. The evening began with Grand Canyon eliminating Utah Valley with a 1-0 final. San Jose State then put an end to San Diego State's season with a 4-0 finish in the second match.
SJSU, the number four seed in the bracket, advances to play CBU on Wednesday. CBU, the regular-season champions of the WAC, earned a first-round bye along with Utah Tech, the second seed.
The Lancers and Spartans met on the opening day of the conference season, that time in San Jose, as the match ended with a 3-1 win for the Spartans. CBU's goal came in the 90th minute.
Since that loss in San Jose, the Lancers have gone 5-1-1, with four of those victories coming in conference action. CBU wrapped up the conference season with a 2-1 victory in San Diego, capped off with an 89th-minute goal to clinch the regular-season championship.
CBU will have the benefit of home-field advantage this time around. In addition to being the number one seed, the 2025 WAC Tournament is also being held at the CBU Soccer Stadium in Riverside. The Lancers finished 5-1-2 in home matches this season, outscoring opponents 18-7.
The Spartans wrapped up the conference season with a 3-2-2 mark. SJSU is unbeaten in its last five matches, beginning with draws against Grand Canyon and San Diego State, and then victories against UNLV, Air Force, and SDSU.
Wednesday will feature a pair of WAC semifinal matches. The day will open at 4 p.m. when Utah Tech takes on Grand Canyon. CBU's match with San Jose State will follow at approximately 7 p.m.
