
Rodriuez’s Red-Filled Scorecard Leads the Lancers in Hawaii

AIEA, HI --- A week in the Aloha State has come to a close for the CBU Lancers team, as the final round of the 54-hole Pearl at Kalauao Invitational wrapped up on Thursday at Pearl CC. In a field of 108 golfers, spanning 18 programs, the Lancers return to the mainland with one top ten finish to boast.
Fifth-year Kurtis Rodriguez highlights the Lancers on the leaderboard, as he concludes the tournament with a sixth-place finish. Rodriguez shot 70 (-2) on Thursday, which came after a red-filled scorecard of 68 (-4) in Wednesday's second round.
Rodriguez posted 12 birdies this week and wraps up the tournament four shots back of Nathan Tseng (UC San Diego), who edged past Tyson Sparks (Army) by one stroke to claim the individual championship.
West Virginia leaves Hawaii with the team title, as their cumulative score of -21 was an 11-shot difference between the runner-up of UC San Diego.
As a unit, the Lancers placed ninth in the 18-team field. Lorenzo Lombardozzi had the second-highest finish of all CBU golfers with his 29th-place finish. Lombardozzi posted his best scorecard, 72 (E), in the opening round.
The Lancers opened strong in round one, with all five golfers finishing within two strokes of par. Jared Abercrombie opened with a round of 73 (+1). Andy Yang and Ka'ena Kaulia both posted two-over rounds of 74.
Abercrombie ends the week placing 41st at five-over, followed by Yang (66, +9) and Kaulia (72, +10).
Thursday ends the fall schedule for CBU Men's Golf. The Lancers will take a break from competition until February, with their next tournament scheduled to begin on February 2 at CSUN's Bill Cullum Invitational.
