RIVERSIDE --- The Lancers welcomed the No. 7-ranked Spartans of San Jose State to Riverside on Saturday, as the WCC regular-season met its final day. A hot second half from the Spartans gave the visiting side enough separation, as they held on for a 14-7 win.
With the victory, SJSU claims a share of the WCC regular-season championship, which it split with Pacific.
The Lancers scored first on a goal from Alex Righetti less than 90 seconds into the contest. The Spartans answered back with authority, netting five consecutive goals in the first quarter before CBU could respond with Righetti's second tally in the closing seconds.
Down 5-2 entering the second, the Lancers mounted a comeback with two goals from Andrea Nuzzo and one from Paulo Hernandez, cutting the deficit to 7-5 entering halftime.
San Jose responded with two goals to start the third before CBU could find the back of the net on a Rafa Martinez goal. Two more Spartan goals followed, as CBU entered the final quarter trailing 11-6.
A goal from Luca Imbriolo started the final quarter on the right foot, but the Spartans splashed back with three goals in a row, giving them the 14-7 advantage and a win on CBU soil.
The Lancers are now 21-10 on the season, posting a WCC record of 3-3. CBU will be back in action on November 15 for the finale of the regular season, as Cal State Fullerton makes their way to Riverside for an 11 a.m. start.
