Swim & Dive Exits Las Vegas with Several Winners

LAS VEGAS, NV --- California Baptist Swim & Dive returned to the pool this week in Las Vegas for the UNLV Winter Invitational. Highlighted by first-place finishes in both swim and dive, the Lancers put together three strong days in their full team competition before Christmas.
It was another big week for the CBU dive team as two Zone E qualifying marks were hit. The first of the week came from Mario Del Valle as he added 1m to his qualifying scores with a mark of 372.15. Del Valle has already qualified in the 3m and platform events.
Bella Reynolds added the next qualifying score as she won the 1m competition with a score of 268.1.
Del Valle placed first in both 1m and 3m. Jade Fontenelle also had a first-place finish with her score of 275.45 in 3m diving.
The Lancers also had a trio of first-place finishes in the pool out of Mark Kovacsics. Kovacsics won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:20.60, and then added a win in the 400-yard IM with his time of 3:54.61. Kovacsics ended his week with a victory in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.68.
Liam Flaherty was third in the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.07. Holden Short finished in fifth behind Kovacsics in the 1650 freestyle.
The Lancers also finished the week with numerous top-five finishes. Individually, Eli Rollen (48.55) placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, followed by Benjamin Madson (48.57) in fifth. Andrew Teh (1:46.05) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke, followed by Rollen (1:46.85) in fourth. Tyler Mansheim (44.64) posted fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. Emily Drossel (55.13) added a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Naya Koc (50.91) placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. Avery Easterling (2:03.27) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly.
In the relays, the CBU women finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, fourth in the 200 IM, and fourth in the 400 freestyle. The CBU men placed fourth in the 200 IM and fifth in the 400 IM.

Diving will be back in action on Saturday for the Riverside Diving Invite. The meet has been moved from Riverside Community College to UCLA, and will start at 11 a.m.
Swim will return to action following the new year when Claremont-Mudd Scripps visits the Lancer Aquatics Center on January 9.
