RENO, NV--- The California Baptist University wrestling team competed in the annual Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, with Braden Priest earning placement for the Lancers.
CBU only had six wrestlers competing in the prestigious tournament, with the majority of the starters having competed on Saturday afternoon at the Cal Poly/Drexel Tri-Dual.
Priest was the lone placer for the Lancers in the tournament, placing fifth in the 149-pound bracket. Priest won his first two matchups with bonus points over wrestlers from Emmanuel College and Southern Oregon, but would drop his quarterfinal matchup to Zane Stoddard of San Francisco State. Priest would battle his way back in the consolation bracket with a pair of wins to set up a fifth-place match against Jason Worthley of Utah Valley. Priest would get a takedown in the third period to bring home the 5th place title at 149lbs via a 3-2 decision of Worthley.
Damien Alvarez, Caedin Olin, and Hunter VanderHeiden would all post multiple wins for the Lancers, while true freshmen Adonis Bonar and Richie Clementi would earn placement while wrestling unattached.
NEXT: The Lancers will get a week off before returning to Riverside to battle Northern Colorado in a BIG 12 dual on Tuesday, November 30, at Van Dyne Gym.
