
CBU Kicks off Spring in Mexico at Vaqueros Intercollegiate

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MX--- The California Baptist men's golf program opened its championship season on Sunday morning in Mexico as they competed in the Vaqueros Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The Lancers finished in 14th of 15 programs, with their best individual finish coming from freshman Andy Yang.
Yang kicked off the week strong for CBU and posted a score of 75 through his first round, and was able to whittle it down to a 72 during his second round. The freshman Lancer finished the final round of the weekend 4-over par for a 21st-place finish of 90 golfers for his best tournament finish during his young collegiate career. Eeli Kujanpää shot his lowest round of the week on Tuesday, sporting a score of 73 during the final round. Kujanpaa tallied 79 and 76 during the first and second rounds, placing him in 37th for the second-best placement for the Lancers.
Other Lancers competing included Sean Citherlet, who shot even with par during the third round for his best effort of the week and placed 46th. California Baptist will return to the course at the end of the month to compete in the Desert Intercollegiate hosted by Wyoming in the Palm Desert at the Classic Club.
