CBU Falls to Rutgers on Saurday

PISCATAWAY, NJ--- Offense was quiet for the California Baptist baseball program on Saturday afternoon as it took on Rutgers University for the second installment of the weekend series. The home squad secured the victory over CBU 5-0 behind impressive pitching, dropping CBU to 9-10 on the season.

Rutgers served the Lancers a taste of their own medicine after delivering three runs during the bottom of the first for an early lead that the Scarlett Knights would never relinquish, mirroring CBU's win yesterday. Jacob Wilson started on the bump for the Lancers and, after a rocky start, locked in for three scoreless innings to keep CBU in the game. California Baptist struggled to hit off freshman sensation Landon Mack, dribbling in just four hits throughout the nine-inning spread.

A final two runs in the bottom of the fifth ultimately sealed the game for the Scarlet Knights and will force a rubber match on Sunday morning. Despite giving up five runs, the CBU pitching staff combined for six strikeouts while only dishing two free passes via a walk and hit-by-pitch. On the flip side, Julian Alvarez had the best day at the plate for the Lancers, with two hits on three at-bats.

CBU will now gear up for a series finale on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. PST in the hopes of earning a series win over the Power 4 squad.
