RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist men's golf program is set to kick off its fall schedule this weekend in Colorado at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hosted by Air Force. Head Coach TL Brown returns seven golfers from last year's squad and welcomes a pair of new faces to Riverside for the 2025-2026 season.
Joining CBU this season are Kobe Buchan (Cruden Bay, Scotland) and Mason Ho. Buchan, a Scottish native, is a sophomore transfer from the University of Memphis and boasts an impressive resume that will bring experience to Brown's squad. Buchan finished in the top 10 of the Scottish Boys Order of Merit in both 2023 and 2024, while also earning the Champion title of the Stephen Gallacher Open in 2024.
Kobe has shown the ability to fire deep in the red, and there is no giving up in poor weather conditions. I'm excited to bring his competitive maturity to CBU men's golf this upcoming season, remarked Brown.
Ho will make his collegiate debut as a Lancer this season and also holds quite a few honors during his high school career. The freshman represented the state of Oregon in both Junior America's Cup and the Hogan Cup in recent years, while also being named the 2024 Pacific Northwest Junior Amateur Champion.
Mason is beginning to play high-level golf and has beaten several DI amateurs. His win at the Pacific Northwest Junior Amateur last summer was a huge moment in his young amateur career, said Brown. Mason consistently places in the top 5 of major northwest events. Qualifying for several team competitions has given him the opportunity to grow and learn what team competition really means. We are excited he chose CBU and can't wait to get him on the course.
The core of the 2024-2025 squad is returning for California Baptist, including Bryden Brown and Kurtis Rodriguez. Brown posted an impressive sophomore season as a Lancer and averaged 73.5 across 24 rounds in eight tournaments. The sophomore secured three top 25 finishes, with his best coming at the Visit Stockton Invitation during the fall of 2024, where he finished 11th of 92 golfers. Despite not playing last season due to injury, CBU is excited to see Rodriguez make his return to the greens. During the 2023-2024 season, the senior impressed with three top 20 finishes and an average score of 73.2 across 33 rounds for the Lancers. His best finish of the season came at the 2024 Men's WAC Golf Tournament Championship, where he finished in 10th and 3-over par through 54 holes.
California Baptist will compete in four tournaments this fall before turning its attention to its spring season, where Brown's team will participate in five events. The Western Athletic Conference Tournament is set for April 27th through the 29th in McKinney, Texas, at Stonebridge Ranch.
