CBU Splits Day Against Ranked Opponents in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA--- After spending the day at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center, the #16 California Baptist men's water polo program split its double-feature against a pair of ranked squads in the Overnght MPSF Tournament. CBU opened strong against #15 Santa Clara University in an exciting 14-11 first game before going toe-to-toe with #12 Pepperdine, but ultimately fell 17-10. The Lancers are now 7-5 on the season.

During the first event of the day, the Lancers showcased a balanced scoring attack, fueled by standout performances from Andrea Nuzzo, who netted four goals, and Whitley Beamon, who added three to the tally. Despite finding an early lead, the Broncos allowed the Lancers to settle in during the second quarter with four goals for a one-point lead heading into halftime. CBU's momentum came to a head in the final two periods after an offensive onslaught of five goals in the third and four more in the final frame. Nuzzo ended with four goals on the day, while Beamon secured a hat trick for CBU's first win of the tournament.

The second game of the day went the Waves way from the first whistle, after Pepperdine was able to dent the twine 10 times during the first half while limiting CBU to just four goals. The third period saw the Lancers find their groove and cut the Waves' lead to just six goals, but another solid attacking quarter from Pepperdine would finalize the game 17-10.

CBU will now face either Princeton or UC Irvine tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at USC for 11th place in the weekend tournament.
