FARGO, ND--- The California Baptist University concluded its Dakota road trip on Sunday afternoon as it battled the North Dakota State Bison in Fargo. Remy Murillo and Gabe Schumm, who did not wrestle in the South Dakota State dual, would win their matches for the Lancers, but CBU would ultimately fall 31-7 to the home squad.
The dual began at 125lbs, as the Bison earned bonus points from #17 Ezekiel Witt after a technical fall, giving them the early 5-0 advantage. North Dakota State would wrestle #32 Tristan Daugherty at 133lbs against Mitchell Neiner. Neiner would compete very well against the 2025 NCAA qualifier, but an early takedown would stand as the difference, as Daugherty won the bout 4-1 over Neiner.
CBU got on the board at 141lbs as Remy Murillo would take on Michael Olson. Murillo, who bumped up from his usual 133lbs, fell behind early with Olson scoring four quick points in the opening period. Murillo would close the opening period with a takedown, flipping the momentum in his favor. Murillo's aggression earned him another takedown in the second period, leading to the eventual 14-9 decision and three points for CBU.
The Bison would wrestle two more NCAA qualifiers at 149lbs and 157lbs, adding 7 more points to the team score. CBU would break up the scoring at 165lbs as Gabe Schumm made his return to Fargo. Schumm, who wrestled for the Bisons from 2021 to 2025, came back to the Scheels Center in dramatic fashion as he scored four takedowns in the opening period of play. Schumm's aggression nearly earned him the technical fall, but Boeden Greenley was able to fend it off, resulting in a 19-7 major decision for Schumm.
The Bison would close out the dual strongly, earning bonus points in two of the final four matches, and would win 31-7 for their first BIG 12 dual win of the season.
