10/13/2026 4:57:00 PM | Men's Soccer
FULLERTON, CA --- With five matches remaining in the regular season, California Baptist men's soccer will take a break from Pac-12 action on Wednesday as awaiting them is the Titans of Cal State Fullerton. In the first of three crossover matches with the Big West, a chance at history is on the line as the Lancers visit Fullerton.
Â
Head coach Coe Michaelson, who already hit a milestone this season by winning his 100th game with the Lancers, is staring down another historic achievement. Coming into the week with 107 victories as the CBU gaffer, Michaelson is tied with Howard Boyer for the most in program history.
Â
A win on Wednesday will make Michaelson, who is in year 11 with CBU, the winningest coach in program history.
Â
The team Michaelson guides comes into the week with a 9-3-0 overall mark following a 2-0 victory vs. UC Riverside in Saturday's Crosstown Showdown. The Lancers are 3-1-0 in conference play, placing them on 9 points, one shy of Oregon State for first place. The top two teams at the end of the regular season will host their respective Pac-12 semifinal match.
Â
Freshman Mustapha Khasim started the scoring in the Crosstown Showdown victory, a right-footed volley off a Stavros Charalampous corner kick. Another freshman, Justin Ojo, added to the scoring in the final ten minutes, his sixth goal of the season. Ojo is tied with junior Blake D'Agostino for the team lead.
Â
The impact of freshmen has been noticeable through the first 12 matches. Five freshmen have started at least one match, while three others have seen time in reserve.
Â
A notable freshman has been goalkeeper Ulrik Stroem. The shutout of UC Riverside was Stroem's sixth of the season, placing him second in the nation in that category. Stroem is allowing 1.00 goals per match, while recording a save on 74 percent of the opportunities he sees.
Â
Wednesday's meeting with the Titans will be just the fourth since the Lancers transitioned to Division I in 2018. The Lancers are 0-1-2 in their previous three looks, including a 1-1 draw last season in Riverside. D'Agostino scored the Lancers' only goal, but the Titans walked out with a draw after a penalty goal in the 89th minute.
Â
Fullerton's lone win in this series came in September 2019.
Â
Fernando Valenzuela leads the Titans attack with five goals this season. Jose de la Torre has set up the offense with four assists. In goal, Asger Hemmer has seen the bulk of the work, tallying a team-high 39 saves.
Â
Wednesday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Titan Stadium and can be streamed through ESPN+. After their visit to Fullerton, the Lancers will return to Riverside on Saturday to take on San Diego State. Saturday's match will be Senior Day for the Lancers, with six seniors set to be honored.
