SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA --- California Baptist's inaugural Pac-12 season continues on Sunday with the Lancers set to take on the Mustangs of Cal Poly. Coming off their best offensive performance in five years, the Lancers will look to keep the momentum going in the second conference match of the year.
Â
The Lancers come into Sunday riding a five-match win streak, the longest of the program's Division I era. CBU's five-match streak is the program's longest since 2017, the Lancers' final year competing in Division II.
Â
During this win streak, the Lancers are outscoring opponents 10-2, with half of that offense coming on Wednesday when the Lancers topped Gonzaga, 5-2.
Â
Wednesday's offensive performance saw CBU score the most goals against a Division I opponent since a 5-1 win over Chicago State on October 24, 2021. The Lancers netted seven goals last season in a late-season match against California Lutheran, a Division III opponent.
Â
Highlighting the offense on Wednesday was the first-career hat trick of freshman Justin Ojo. Ojo became the third CBU player in the Division I era to record a hat trick, joining Preston Judd and Bryan Iliohan. Ojo netted all three goals in a 30-minute span, including a first-half brace with goals coming less than seven minutes apart.
Â
Blake D'Agostino and Adam Marsli also scored in Wednesday's win. D'Agostino's goal was his sixth of the year, matching the conference lead. Marsli's was the first of his collegiate career.
Â
Sunday's opponent, Cal Poly, is one the Lancers have limited history with. Sunday will be just the third meeting of the Lancers and Mustangs, with the series split, 1-1. The Lancers earned their victory last season in a 2-0 shutout over Welcome Weekend. D'Agostino and Drew Hardin scored in the win.
Â
The Mustangs sit 4-2-4 through ten matches and opened the Pac-12 season on Wednesday with a 1-1 draw vs. UC San Diego. In the latest NCAA RPI, Cal Poly sits at No. 128 while the Lancers claim No. 76.
Â
Colin Pearce leads the Mustangs with four goals and four assists. Devin Bening has netted three goals in ten appearances with only two starts. Charlie Hogan and Finn Linas each have a pair of goals, as well. Goalkeeping has been handled by Mathew Guerra, who features a .684 save percentage across all 900 minutes of action.
Â
Freshman Ulrik Stroem has cemented himself as CBU's goalkeeper, bringing into the weekend a .773 save percentage in seven starts. Stroem had a shutout streak of five matches before Wednesday's win in Spokane.
Â
Sunday's visit to San Luis Obispo is slated for 3 p.m. and can be streamed online via ESPN+. The match concludes a three-match road trip for CBU, as the Lancers are scheduled to return home on Wednesday, October 7, to welcome No. 21 Oregon State.
Â
Next week's meeting with the Beavers will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
