Lancers See Their Win Streak End After 4-1 Loss to Oregon State
10/7/2026 9:52:00 PM | Men's Soccer
RIVERSIDE --- In front of a national audience, tuning in on ESPNU, the longest active win streak in Division I men's soccer came to an end. Hosting the Beavers of Oregon State, California Baptist found itself in an early hole that, despite consistent pressure in the second half, the Lancers ultimately fell by a final of 4-1.
Â
Wednesday's loss snapped a six-match win streak that dated back to September 11. The streak, which was the longest in the nation entering Wednesday, was the longest of the Lancers' Division I era.
Â
Head coach Coe Michaelson noted after the match, "It is hard to win at this level when you make the kind of mistakes we made tonight, but that's not who we have been most of the year, so for me, at this point, it's all about the response. We know we weren't what we can be tonight, so now we have to respond."
Â
Oregon State put two goals on the board within the first 25 minutes of the match, both off the foot of Tim Hoffman. Hoffman's first goal, registering in the 11th minute, was assisted by Gavin Wolff. Michael Nesci assisted Hoffman's second goal, which came in the 25th minute.
Â
The Beavers then added to their total in the 56th minute when Aidan Marquez scored off a Max Eisenberg assist.
Â
Through the first ten matches of the season, the Lancers had been consistent at one thing: failing to let their opponent shut them out. That trend continues thanks to Drew Hardin, who netted the Lancers' only goal of the night in the 59th minute. Hardin's goal was credited with assists from Nico Coope and Blake D'Agostino.
Â
Thanks to Hardin's goal, the Lancers have not been shut out since November 3, 2024.
Â
Oregon State had one more tally in them, a 64th-minute goal from Wyatt Borso, which was headed in off an Oliver Hernandez Parra corner kick. Borso leads the Pac-12 with nine goals this season.
Â
The Lancers put pressure on the Beavers in the second half, ripping off 15 shots after registering just two in the opening 45 minutes. CBU also attempted seven second-half corner kicks after earning just one in the first half. CBU outshot OSU, 17-14, with the Beavers winning the battle for shots on goal, 9-6.
Â
Goalkeeper Ulrik Stroem ended the night with four saves against four goals allowed. OSU keeper John Nicolson finished with five saves.
Â
The Lancers will look to rebound on Saturday, as next on the schedule is the 2026 installment of the Crosstown Showdown. UC Riverside will visit the CBU Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Tickets for Saturday are on sale HERE.
