RIVERSIDE --- The first-ever men's soccer conference matchup in the history of the Crosstown Showdown arrives on Saturday, as the Lancers host their inner-city rivals, UC Riverside. Coming off their first conference loss of the season, CBU will look to rebound and pick up three points as the Pac-12 season reaches its midway point.
Â
California Baptist comes into Saturday night with a 2-1-0 mark in conference play, placing the Lancers on six points and second place behind Oregon State (7 points). Oregon State handed the Lancers a 4-1 defeat on Wednesday, the Lancers' first loss of the Pac-12 season, elevating the Beavers to the top of the table.
Â
The top two teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will host their respective conference semifinal match.
Â
CBU's lone goal in Wednesday's loss was a 59th-minute tally from senior Drew Hardin. Hardin's goal extended the Lancers' streak of consecutive matches with a goal to 30, as CBU has not been shut out since November 3, 2024.
Â
The loss, however, ended a six-match win streak that was the longest in CBU's Division I era. CBU came into Wednesday night owning the longest active win streak in Division I.
Â
Set to test the Lancers on Saturday is UC Riverside, the crosstown rival of CBU. The 2026 season is historic for the two programs as it presents the first-ever conference meeting of the Crosstown Showdown. Since 2005, the Lancers and Highlanders have met just nine times, with UCR owning a 3-2-4 advantage on the Lancers. In their 2025 meeting, a rain-soaked battle on the campus of UCR, the Lancers settled for a 1-1 draw.
Â
That draw was the lone non-victory out of CBU in ten meetings with UC Riverside last year (across all sports). California Baptist dominated the Crosstown Showdown with a 9-0-1 mark.
Â
Blake D'Agostino scored the only goal for the Lancers, a 79th-minute equalizer off an assist from Uly Martinez.
Â
The Highlanders come into Saturday sitting 0-1-1 in Pac-12 play. Like the Lancers, UCR's lone conference loss was a 4-1 finish vs. Oregon State. The Highlanders played to a 2-2 draw with UC San Diego in their last time out.
Â
On the season, the Highlanders sit at 3-5-3, with wins coming against Grand Canyon, Life Pacific (NAIA), and Air Force.
Â
Saturday's edition of the Crosstown Showdown is scheduled for 7 p.m., with tickets still available HERE. Fans who cannot make it out to the CBU Soccer Stadium can tune into the conference battle through ESPN+.
Â
Following the visit from the Highlanders, the Lancers will return to the road for their first crossover match with the Big West, as CBU takes on Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, October 14.
