
Lancers Finish Top-Three in the Desert

PALM DESERT, CA--- The California Baptist men's golf program is off to a hot start for the spring season, securing a third-place team finish of 23 programs at the Wyoming Desert Classic this week. The finish marks the squad's second top-three finish this season and its second top-five finish this spring. Kurtis Rodriguez led the way for the Lancers with a fifth-place finish after three exceptional rounds.
The week started well for CBU after all five Lancers scored even or under par through the first 18 holes as Rodriguez and Jared Abercrombie led the way with 71s. The second day saw California Baptist heat up as Ambercrombie shot 4-under to sit at the top of the individual player rankings for the Lancers, as both Rodriguez and Andy Yang shot a 70. TL Brown's team continued to dominate in the third round and kept pace with the top teams, including an impressive 5-under score from Rodriguez that secured his place in the top five of the tournament. Mason Ho had his best round of the week on the final day as well and shot 3-under, while Abercrombie finished his scorecard with a 70.
Ambercrombie finished the week in 9th, while Yang ended in 34th with Lorenzo Lombardozzi just behind in 41st. Ho finished his week in 52nd. Rodriguez ranked second with an average of 4.33 Par 5's in the desert, while Ambercrombie ranked third in Par 4's this week with 3.87.
The Lancers will now turn their attention to the Watney Invitational in Fresno next week, beginning on March 2nd.
