SOMIS, CA--- The California Baptist men's golf program kicked off its spring season this week at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by CSUN, and secured a fifth-place finish among 12 programs. Andy Yang posted the best finish individually as a Lancer after finishing in eighth place among 70 golfers.
TL Brown's squad started strong and was tied for third after the first round, as Jared Abercrombie paced the Lancers with a 74 after the first 18 holes. CBU fell behind during the second round of the tournament after shooting 18-over as a team, but Yang came through even with par to keep himself at the top of the individual board. During the final round of the week, Abercombie secured his best finish at the Saticoy Club at 73, while both Yang and Lorenzo Lambardocci shot 74 to push the Lancers to the top half of the leaderboard.
California Baptist dominated the Par 3's on the course, shooting the lowest of all 12 programs, as Yang led the tournament at 5-under on Par 5's throughout the course. The fifth-place finish as a team marks the second-best finish this season for Brown's squad and sets a good tone for the rest of the spring season.
CBU will now turn its attention to the Desert Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Wyoming at the end of the month.
