Jesse Zepeda was hired as California Baptist University's assistant baseball coach in August, 2015.
In five seasons, the Lancers have gone 154-78, won a Western Athletic Conference title, a PacWest championship and qualified for the NCAA Division II West Regional three times. CBU also hosted the 2016 West Regional. Seven players have also been taken in the MLB Draft since Zepeda joined the staff, as well.
Zepeda brought 13 years of experience in collegiate baseball, including at the NCAA Division I level, to the table for the Lancers. In addition to his coaching, he also boasted an impressive playing resume along with him after he completed his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma and played three seasons (1997-99) in the Toronto Blue Jays' minor-league system.
Prior to CBU, Zepeda had spent the last five years as the head assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator at Long Beach State, while also overseeing the offense. He filled the same role at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for seven years, acting as the infield coach and assisting with defensive schemes and plays for the Mustangs, as well.
Zepeda worked his way into the Division I ranks after coaching one season at the junior college level, with Allan Hancock College in 2003, before transitioning to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo later that year. He remained with the Mustangs until 2010 before moving on to Long Beach State.
Inside the foul lines, Zepeda began his college career at Fresno State in 1992. He transferred to Cuesta College in 1993 and then spent his final two years at Oklahoma. He helped the Sooners qualify for the College World Series in 1995. After college, he was drafted in the 23rd round of the 1996 Major League Baseball draft.
Zepeda earned his bachelors in liberal studies from Oklahoma.
