RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Although it was unable to hold off Pomona-Pitzer more than a month ago, something different must be in the water for No. 20 California Baptist.
The Lancers came back from a 1-goal fourth-quarter deficit with a trio of goals, including 2 from Aaron Abellano, as they win their second straight and improve to 22-9 on the season.
The Sagehens had knocked off CBU in a Sept. 23 meeting by means of an overtime golden goal by Field Garthwaite, but fall to 8-9.
A goal from Charlie Weaver got the Lancers on the board in the first period, as Ryan Steiger and Josh Harris each followed him up with a goal while Jon Miller held the Sagehens scoreless in a, 3-0, opening period.
With Pomona-Pitzer trailing by a 4-1 score in the second quarter, the Sagehens went on a 3-0 rally thanks to a pair of goals from Glen Anderson. Chris Morgan's goal with just under 2 minutes remaining in the half kept CBU in the lead, at 5-4, going into the half.
Thanks to a 3-2 third-quarter effort, the Sagehens had tied the score going into the fourth period, and Ben Cooper's goal put Pomona-Pitzer up at 8-7, but Harris and Abellano scored back-to-back goals to take the lead for good, at 9-8.
Abellano's second goal of the period gave the Lancers a, 10-8, cushion that held up when Anderson tucked away a goal at 34 seconds left on the clock.
