RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- They say that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. But what about the effect of a last impression?
Aaron Abellano, in his final home game as a Lancer, netted a career-high 6 goals in No. 20 California Baptist's, 16-9, win over Chapman in the home season finale.
The 6 goals puts Abellano in a 7-way tie for fifth on the school all-time single-game chart. He also added 3 steals and an assist in the rout.
After closing out the first period with a tied score at 2 apiece, the Lancers embarked on the first of 2 consecutive 5-goal quarters that made the score 12-7 going into the fourth quarter.
Junior goalie Jon Miller broke his own school record in the fourth period with his 250th save on the season and also added 3 assists and a pair of steals. Miller had grabbed 249 saves as a 2004 freshman, which, at the time, was 16 more than the previous school record.
The nation's leading goalscorer, Ryan Steiger, tucked away 3 goals himself, while David Graves scored twice. The remaining trio of seniors, Charlie Weaver, Mike Looy and Andrew Thacker, each scored once in his final home game as a Lancer.
