ST. GEORGE, Utah --- Shi Fei didn't waste any time in her first day wearing a California Baptist uniform.
The 6-foot-2 freshman posted 13 kills in both matches, as 2-time defending NAIA Champion California Baptist opened its season with victories over NCAA Division II Dixie State (Utah) and NAIA opponent Great Falls (Mont.) in the Westminster Tournament in St. George, Utah.
In the season-opener, a 30-25, 30-22, 30-20 win over Dixie State, Fei ripped 13 kills on 23 swings without committing an error for a .565 hitting percentage. She also contributed 3 of the team's 9 service aces, while 2005 All-American Angela Willis notched 10 kills en route to a .438 (10-3-13) clip.
No. 1-ranked California Baptist went up 2 games to none in the nightcap against Great Falls, but had to rebound after dropping game 3 to capture its second match of the day by a score of 30-23, 30-13, 29-31, 30-13, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Fei again chipped in 13 kills and hit .417 (13-3-24) while 2005 NAIA Player of the Year Verania Willis led the team with 24 kills on 37 cuts for a .514 (24-5-37) percentage.
Lindsey Siefken came away with 11 kills and 4 blocks for the Lancers, who hit .421 as a team, inlcuding a .704 (20-1-27) showing in game 2.
