RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Ryan Steiger's fifth goal turned out to be the golden goal, as No. 20-ranked California Baptist finally shook Golden West in overtime, 14-13.
Down, 12-13, with under a minute on the fourth-quarter gameclock, Chris Morgan tied the game up for the tenth and final time at 13-13 with 56 seconds left to play in regulation.
Steiger's goal came 2:05 into the overtime period, giving the Lancers the win and improving their record to 10-4 (9-4 against 4-year varsity programs).
After Steiger's first goal opened up the scoring just 33 seconds into the first quarter, Golden West showed its hand with a goal apiece from Ash Blythen and Nikola Popovic, who would each end up with 6 goals in the contest.
Mike Looy netted a pair of first-quarter goals, the second of which came off an assist from Aaron Abellano, but Blythen scored again to tied the score at 3-3 heading to the second quarter.
The Lancers scored 3 consecutive times to open the second period, but there was Blythen, scoring to kick off a 4-1 run where Popovic netted 3 of his tallies to tie the game 7-7.
The second half was played closer than the first, as only Golden West posted consecutive unanswered points in the final 2 periods. Abellano scored with 2:07 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Morgan's goal tied it at 13-13 after Popovic scored with 1:25 left on the clock.
