FRESNO, Calif. --- It's only the first time she's played California Baptist, and already the Lancers have had enough of Ke Ke Wang.
Wang, a 6-foot-4 freshman middle, nailed down 10 kills on 18 error-less swings while racking up 7 blocks in No. 2 Fresno Pacific's, 30-25, 30-21, 30-19, sweep of the No. 3-ranked and 2-time NAIA defending champion Lancers.
The Lancers drop to 14-2, 5-1 GSAC while the Sunbirds, who had 10 blocks as a team, improve to 13-0, 6-0. It was just California Baptist's second loss of the year in a rematch of the 2005 NAIA National Championship quarterfinals, which the Lancers won, 3-1.
Verania Willis turned in a match-high 13 kills, but was held to a .156 hitting percentage. No other Lancer reached double-digits in kills, but Yudelka Bonilla had 9 kills and 12 digs.
Fabiana Leomill posted 11 kills on 31 swings for Fresno Pacific, which rattled off 4-straight points and hit .342 (16-3-38) in the finale.
The Sunbirds piled up a 15-10 lead in game 2 thanks to a, 4-0, run, and streched the lead to 10, at 27-17, with a 6-point rally featuring a block assist by Shu Liu and Wang. Fresno Pacific hit .333 (19-5-42) to California Baptist's .080 (12-8-50) clip in the set.
The Lancers pulled to within 2, at 20-18, on a trio of serves from Lindsey Siefken that was highlighted by a block by Rachel Gowen and Angela Willis. However, California Baptist, which was out-blocked by a 5-2 margin in the first game, was quickly the victims of a 4-0 Fresno Pacific run that made the score 27-21. The Sunbirds pulled away after a, 3-0, Lancer run made the score 27-24, and ended the first game on a block by Liu and Wang.
