LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Amanda Lammers' goal early in the second half helped the NAIA's No. 6-ranked California Baptist University salvage a 1-1 draw with Biola Wednesday night.
The tie moves the Lancers to 13-3-1 overall, 7-1-1 (22 points) GSAC, while the Eagles are now 5-6-3, 1-5-3 (6 points).
“It was a tale of two halves,” said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. “We didn't have a strong start and had difficulty finding our rhythm in the first half. I thought we came out in the second half and were very, very good the rest of the way. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get that one more goal we needed. The girls gave a courageous effort.”
Biola, which only had four first half shots, struck first in the 25th minute when Kahlie Reinecke headed in a cross from Gillian McPherson to the far post.
The Lancers came close to getting the equalizer, but Lindsey Merrett's shot in the 39th minute banged off the crossbar.
Just 3:12 in the second half, Lammers tied the game with her sixth goal of the season, finishing off a cross from Merrett. CBU nearly took its first lead six minutes later but Kylee Nicassio hit the crossbar. Five minutes after that, Reinecke hit the crossbar.
The teams combined for just five more shots from that point and were forced to play extra time.
There were just two shots in overtime. The Lancers had both of them and out-shot the Eagles, 13-10, for the game.
