RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University put the finishing touches on an impressive offensive display that led to a four-game sweep of Purdue-North Central, combining for 28 hits and 29 runs Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of the Panthers.
The Lancers won the opener, 11-1, and completed the sweep with an 18-3 win in the nightcap.
The victories make the Lancers' 4-0 on the season. They have started each of the past three seasons prior to this one with wins in their first seven games and have won 26 of the past 31 at Totman Stadium. The Panthers fall to 0-4.
In the opener, Cory Allen tossed 7.2 strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out nine. He gave up three first-inning hits as the Panthers took their first and only lead of the series, 1-0. However, the Lancers responded with a four-run second and a three-run third to assume control.
Drake Fages and Daniel Lasley each had three hits, three RBIs and two doubles, combining for six of the Lancers' 13 hits.
In the nightcap, the Lancers continued their offensive onslaught, using an eight-run second to open a 10-0 advantage. Zach Hedges was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and two doubles. Jake Johnson was 3-for-4 with three runs and a double. Brett McIntosh finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a double.
The Lancers, who had 10 stolen bases in the first game Thursday, resumed their aggressive base-running, stealing six bases in the nightcap.
Erik Wallace made his first collegiate start, going four innings. He gave up just two hits and one earned run while striking out two. All four starters in the series earned the win on the mound.
In the four-game series, the Lancers out-scored the Panthers, 74-6, and had 78 hits, 22 doubles and 16 stolen bases.
