RIVERSIDE--- The annual Fall CBU Baseball World Series kicked off this morning at Totman Stadium as Blue versus Gold battled in what was a very competitive opening game. Ultimately, Blue came away with the 16-7 victory and dominated offensively with 14 hits.
Despite taking the loss, Gold jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a bases-clearing double from Cole Hansen. Gold's starting pitcher, Luis Becerra, held down the mound, but Blue slowly began chipping away at the lead by securing a run in the third before exploding for four runs in the fifth inning. Cole Howarth knocked a two-run RBI single before Ben Castelli launched his first home run of the day for a pair of runs to garner a three-run lead.
Gold did not go down quietly and picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth before Bryce McFeely would come in clutch with a two-run RBI single to tie the game yet again. Carter Eberhard would secure the lead for the Gold team with a two-run bomb in the sixth, but it was the seventh inning that ultimately decided the game. The Blue squad would secure 10 runs at the top of the seventh thanks to Castelli's second two-run home run and two other two-run RBI doubles. Gold was unable to overcome the deficit and go down one game in the series.
Tomorrow's game has a first pitch set for 2 p.m.
