RIVERSIDE--- With the 2026 season just two months away, the California Baptist baseball program has been preparing throughout the fall, and fans will see 15 new faces at Totman this year. The Lancers picked up five collegiate transfers and 10 freshmen for the squad, including eight new pitchers added to the bullpen.
Of the five collegiate transfers, Skipper Gary Adcock will welcome two right-handed pitchers, a pair of outfielders, and a catcher. Zachary Yates comes to Riverside from Westmont College, bringing an impressive pedigree that includes NCAA Division II All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference honors. The right-hander helped his former school to a National Championship in 2023 and averaged 11.02 strikeouts as a reliever in 2024, boasting 51 Ks and just nine walks. Joining him are a pair of his teammates, as Bryce McFeely and Bryan Peck will also don the navy blue and gold this season. McFeely enters Division I baseball with a career .331 batting average, 30 home runs, and 37 stolen bases. The outfielder's rare combination of size and physicality is set to bring strong production to the Lancer offense in 2026. Peck joins CBU as another right-handed pitcher and will likely log significant innings for the Lancers, having earned impressive honors such as All-American and All-Region. He also holds Westmont's all-time pitching wins record
Also joining the Lancers this season are Cole Hansen and Ryder Dykstra. Hansen comes from the University of Oklahoma as a redshirt freshman and will add depth to the catching position for CBU. He was a .349 career hitter during his high school career and a four-time All-League performer. Dykstra also joins CBU this season after a redshirt season with the University of Southern California, and will bring an advanced feel for hitting in the batter's box this year for California Baptist.
Of the freshmen coming to Riverside, CBU will welcome four true pitchers, two dual-position players, and four other position players. Nathan Chavez will join the Lancer pitching staff as a left-hander from Arlington High School, where he posted impressive upperclassmen years from the mound and was awarded All-League honors thanks to his 1.01 ERA. John Carlson will debut for CBU after the right-hander ended his high school career with a sub-2.0 ERA and 328 strikeouts. Also joining the pitching staff are Kody Smathers and Carter Tucker. Smathers comes to the Lancers from Summit High School after posting a 2.25 high school ERA with 119 strikeouts in 105 innings, while Tucker will round out the freshmen pitching class as a right-hander after finishing his high school career with a 1.48 ERA and All-CIF honors.
Eric Ruiz and Diesel Toth will be ones to watch as they possess the opportunity to play both on the field and command the bump this year. Ruiz comes to Riverside as a right-handed pitcher and quick outfielder, boasting a .516 career batting average and a 1.88 ERA across 52 innings. Toth is an infielder and right-handed pitcher characterized by his strength and quickness, which makes him one of the most versatile players this season for Coach Adcock. Toth ended his high school career with a .380 batting average and 1.77 ERA.
The last new faces for the Lancers this season are Matthew Bline, Samuel Lopez, Isaiah Reveron, and Tommy Entrekin. Bline joins CBU from Citrus Valley High School and is an outfielder with a notably aggressive swing. He is a career .360 hitter with 55 stolen bases, flexing his quickness on the basepaths as well. Lopez is a local product from Summit High School and will make an immediate impact in our infield thanks to his defensive prowess. Reveron possesses the skills to play both infield and outfield for the Lancers, boasting a physical presence that should impact the CBU offense early in his collegiate career. Lastly, Entrekin comes from Granite Hills High School with a .429 batting average and All-CIF honors, rounding out the freshmen class.
California Baptist will open its 2026 season on Friday, February 13th, at Cal State Fullerton at 6:30 p.m.
