PEAK PERFORMANCE

IRVINE, Calif. --- All season long California Baptist University Head Coach Kristen St. Clair has preached about peaking at the right time.
By the looks of things, the 11th-ranked Lancers are peaking. At the right time.
The Lancers scored a goal in each half, didn't allow a shot on frame and ran their unbeaten streak to five straight with a 2-0 win at No. 16 Concordia in both team's regular-season finale Saturday afternoon.
CBU improves to 12-4-1 overall, 6-3-1 (19 points) GSAC and wrapped up third place and thus the third-seed in the upcoming GSAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday. The Lancers also move to 7-1 against NAIA Top 25 teams.
Concordia falls to 10-5-3, 5-3-2 (17 points).
"This is the time of year where you want to be playing your best, and today was a pretty good, complete performance for us," said St. Clair. "Concordia is a very, very good team, and to have this type of performance against a good team is the right step to take heading into the postseason."
The Lancers dominated from the opening kick, out-shooting the Eagles, 14-4, and giving up just one shot in the second half. None of the Eagles' four shots threatened Lancer keeper Katie Rumfola, who didn't need to make a save in getting her first career clean sheet.
All-American Kitra Walters got things started in the 29th minute with her first goal of the season when she collected a rebound and tucked one inside the far post.
They doubled their lead in the 56th minute when Kylee Nicassio ripped one from 30 yards out and beat Eagle keeper Bekah Garvin to her right at the far post. It was Nicassio's team-leading 10th of the season, and both goals were unassisted.
"We are starting to find our form and are finally getting healthier," said St. Clair. "Training is getting better, and the performances have been more consistent. We're just focusing on getting better every day, and that is happening."
The Lancers begin the GSAC Tournament Tuesday afternoon against an opponent still to be determined.
