COSTA MESA, Calif. --- California Baptist University had its season come to a close on Monday night with an 86-50 loss at Vanguard.
The Lancers finished their season at 5-15 in the Golden State Athletic Conference and 12-18 overall. They finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with Concordia and Fresno Pacific, but lost the tie-breaker to Concordia and were left out of the eight-team GSAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday. It is the first time since 2004 the Lancers will miss the postseason.
Guard Megan Bradford wrapped up her career with a 15-point performance, going 5-for-9 from three-point range. She is fourth on the Lancers' career list with 165 three-pointers made. Senior Heather Couzens was the only other Lancer in double figures, scoring 13 points in the final game of her college career.
Senior forward Bryana Williams had 10 rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench for CBU, which lost 14 of 16 games to end the season.
Third-ranked Vanguard, which shares the regular-season title with Azusa Pacific, will enter the GSAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Lions are 18-2, 22-2.
Vanguard had four players score in double figures and jumped on CBU early, holding the Lancers to just 19-first half points en route to a 49-19 halftime lead.
Vanguard jumped to a 17-3 lead and led by as many as 32 points in the first half.
Paige Halberg, who had 10 points for Vanguard, hit a three-pointer with 11:20 remaining in the game to take a 65-25 lead, their biggest of the game. Vanguard led by at least 28 for the entire second half.
The Lancers shot just 24 percent in the first half and 31.3 percent for the game. They turned the ball over 27 times, including 16 in the first half.
CBU's bench was 1-for-11 from the field and finished with eight points.
