LAIE, Hawaii --- Osvaldo Bastida scored his first career hat trick, and Michael Salazar scored twice to lead California Baptist University to a 6-0 Pacific West Conference victory over BYU-Hawaii Wednesday afternoon.
The win is the Lancers' fourth straight as they improve to 10-4 overall, 7-1 (21 points) PacWest. It is the first time in program history the Lancers have posted consecutive 10-win seasons.
In addition, their six goals is their highest output of the season and most since a 6-0 win against San Diego Christian Oct. 27 last year.
The Seasiders fall to 7-4-1, 3-3-1 (10 points).
For Bastida, he scored his sixth, seventh and eighth goals of the season, setting a new career-high for goals in a season. He had seven last year. The senior is now fifth in program history with 23 goals and 64 points, and it is his fifth career game with a goal and an assist.
Both he and Salazar along with Jonathan Garcia and Alex Anderson added assists. Jonathan Fausto also scored.
"Any time you play three games in five days you have to be efficient," said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "The guys have continued to grow and implement the things we talk about. This was a difficult surface to play on, but we found the spaces to create chances and then did a great job taking them."
Bastida got things started in the 22nd minute, heading in a cross from the right side from Garcia. Just eight minutes later, he took a ball from Anderson on the right side, let it bounce twice then one-timed it from 18 yards out over Seasider keeper Josiah Holtz, and the route was on.
Salazar scored his seventh goal in the 42nd minute running onto a slotted ball from Bastida, giving the Lancers a 3-0 halftime lead. They scored three times in each half.
Bastida scored his final goal in the 64th minute cleaning up a loose ball in the box. He now has five goals in his past four games after scoring three in his first 10.
"I wasn't playing best a few weeks ago, and coach knows me well and he knew what I needed," said Bastida, who has started the past five games after spending the previous five coming off the bench. "Going to the bench was a humbling but good experience for me. It gave me a different perspective and that has helped me get back on track."
"Ozzie went through a dip in form and that happens to every player, but his response has been tremendous," said Jorden. "He's getting better and working to fine tune things. He's capable of doing this every time out, and it really is a tribute to his focus and dedication."
All 18 Lancers that suited up played. Joey Pacheco (75 minutes) and Mitchell Carter (15 minutes) combined to post the Lancers' second straight shutout and fifth this season. Carter made the only save.
Fausto scored in the 74th minute finishing a pass from Salazar, who then completed the scoring just 1:29 later.
The Lancers outshot the Seasiders 20-3, including a 13-1 advantage on goal.
