HILO, Hawaii --- California Baptist University scored four second half goals to turn a 2-0 halftime lead into a route in 6-1 win at Hawaii-Hilo in a Pacific West Conference game Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers conclude their first-ever Hawaii road trip a perfect 4-0 winning four games in eight days to improve to 12-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 (25 points) PacWest.
"Four games in eight days is not easy, and the girls' execution and performance was very good this entire week," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "This is another step forward for us. They worked very hard and I'm pleased with the way they worked on this trip."
The Vulcans drop to 2-8-2, 0-6-2 (2 points).
Bernadette Witz scored twice and had an assist, and both Kylee Nicassio and Kimberly Allard had a goal and an assist to lead the Lancer attack.
CBU outshot UHH, 22-8, which included a 14-4 advantage in the second half. Six of its 11 shots on goal found the back of the net.
Allard got things started with a goal just 2:22 into the game when she beat Vulcan keeper Alysia Barone to the far post. Then in the 32nd minute, Chantel Cappuccilli served Amanda Lammers a great ball behind the Vulcan defense and Lammers made it 2-0.
The Vulcans cut the deficit in half in the 58th minute, scoring on a corner kick, but the Lancers answered with four goals in a 22-minute span.
Fabiola Zanella da Silva made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute scoring on a direct free kick that she bent around the wall and inside the far post. In the 77th minute, Nicassio moved within two goals of tying the program career record of 48, finishing a cross from Witz. It was her 12th goal of the season.
Witz then finished the scoring with a pair of goals just 2:41 apart in the 82nd and 85th minutes. Allard assisted the first one, and Silvia Sanchez helped on the second one.
As the only undefeated in the PacWest, CBU is now just three
wins away from winning the PacWest title in its first season in the conference.
The Lancers host Grand Canyon Wednesday at 3 p.m.
