RIVERSIDE--- It will be a quiet week in Riverside as the California Baptist women's soccer program travels to Orem, Utah, for one Western Athletic Conference match this week versus Utah Valley. Both the Lancers and Wolverines are tied for first in the conference standings with a pair of perfect opening weeks, posting a 2-0 record in conference play.
Kristen St. Clair's squad enters the second week of WAC play after a pair of solid home wins over the two Texas teams this past week. CBU grinded out a last-minute win over Abilene Christian on Thursday evening, thanks to a header from Taylor Held, before turning around to defeat Tarleton State handily on Sunday evening. Ava Westlund was the Lancer to know after she scored three goals last week, including a brace against the Texans, to lead CBU to a first-place table spot. On the flip side, Mikayla O'Brien continues to shine between the posts as she picked up her third WAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after allowing just one goal during the opening conference week matches.
Utah Valley opened the week with a pair of wins over both ACU and Tarleton State, scoring a total of 10 goals against the Texas schools while allowing just one. The Wolverines certainly do not lack offense and have outshot their opponents 27 goals to 19 this season thus far. Ruby Hladek and Faith Webber lead the charge with seven goals each, while the latter owns three in conference play alone. UVU was the winner of the coaches' poll at the beginning of the season, and their strong start to the year is indicative of another strong team coming out of Orem.
Friday's match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. PST start and will be streamed to ESPN+.
