RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's soccer program will hit the road once again this week as Western Athletic Conference play continues in Utah for the Lancers. CBU will take on Southern Utah and Utah Tech this week on Thursday and Sunday, coming into the week with a 2-1 WAC record and sitting in second in the conference table.
Kristen St. Clair's squad will be looking to right their sails after a toss loss last week to Utah Valley in Orem after kicking off WAC play with a perfect 2-0 record. These two matches this week marks the last time this season the Lancers will play a new team in the regular season, as the conference schedule is set to play all teams both home and away. Nikki Mau led the offense last week with a beautifully struck goal in the 18-yard box off a deflected corner kick, serviced by Anja Jestrovic. Despite their 7-1 loss, the Lancers have looked sharp overall during WAC play with two solid wins over ACU and Tarleton State, and have accumulated five goals in three matches.
Southern Utah comes into the third week of WAC play with just two wins on the season as a whole, posting a 1-2 record during conference play. The Thunderbird wins came from Portland State earlier this season and most recently, against Tarleton State in a 2-0 shutout victory. SUU finished last week with a 4-0 loss against Abilene Christian, totaling six allowed goals during conference play while scoring three overall. Both Sarah Assumma and Whitney Gardner lead the Thunderbird offense with three goals and three assists. Between the sticks, Jazmyn Brass has started all 11 matches for SUU and has posted 47 saves and 24 allowed goals.
A few cities over, Utah Tech has done it all during the conference season with a 1-1-1 record. The squad bested SUU in a 2-1 match before tying ACU 1-1, then dropped a 4-3 game to Tarleton State. The Trailblazers have scored in every match this season and have yet to be shutout, thanks to an impressive 21 goals this season. Leading the way is Bre Koscielski with four goals and three assists, while three other Trailblazers own three goals on the season. Brianna Frey has been solid in goal for UTU with 29 saves and one shutout this season.
All matches this week will be streamed on ESPN+.
