SWEET REVENGE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Just three days after playing one of its worst games of the year, California Baptist University put together one of its best.
The Lancers scored three first-half goals, Kylee Nicassio moved within one goal of the program's career record and the Lancers enacted sweet revenge with a 4-1 road win at Grand Canyon Saturday night.
Not only does the win avenge a 3-1 loss to the Antelopes this past Wednesday that snapped the Lancers' 12-game unbeaten streak, but it also clinches a share of the Pacific West Conference title for the Lancers with one game remaining.
"We had an off day Wednesday, but the girls were prepared tonight," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "They put the work in over the past few days, and their execution was just way better tonight and we got a good road win against a good team."
The win moves the Lancers to 13-2-1 overall, 9-1-1 (28 points) PacWest. The Antelopes drop to 9-5-2, 8-2-1 (25 points).
Both CBU and GCU were tied atop the PacWest standings with 25 points apiece at the start of the game. Ninety minutes later, the Lancers stood alone.
It took them all of 45 seconds to get started.
Fabiola Zanella da Silva dribbled around a handful of defenders and into the box then took a shot on the ground to the far post. It deflected off an Antelope defender and into the net for a 1-0 CBU lead.
Then in the 27th minute, Nicassio scored her PacWest leading 13th goal of the season, one-timing a cross from Kimberly Allard. For Nicassio, it was her 47th career goal, and now she just needs one more to tie Courtney Firth for the program record of 48 set in 2000.
"We really set the tone in the first 20 minutes of each half," said St. Clair. "We got great leadership and good performances from everyone that played. It was a good team win."
Kitra Walters scored her first goal of the season in the 41st minute, and the route was on.
Grand Canyon was able to get on the board just 58 seconds before halftime, but that was it from the Antelopes.
The Antelopes outshot the Lancers 16-13, but Nicoline Jorgensen made eight saves.
Amanda Lammers completed the Lancers' scoring with a goal in the 88th minute, finishing a rebound from Lindsay Vesling's shot.
The Lancers now have the entire week off before hosting Dixie State next Saturday (Nov. 5) in their final regular-season game. The Lancers will honor their seniors and attempt to win the PacWest title outright.
