RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Kimberly Allard made quite a first impression.
The freshman from nearby La Sierra High scored once and assisted on two others in her collegiate debut to help California Baptist University to a 4-0 season-opening route of Northeastern State Thursday.
The Lancers, who got four goals from four different players, extend their winning streak to nine straight season-opening
victories with the win, while improving to 1-0. The Riverhawks fall to 0-1.
The Lancers scored twice in each half.
"Kimberly had a great game," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair, who picked up her program-record 61st career win today. "She is a dynamic player, and she did a great job creating chances for herself and her teammates. It was a solid performance and a great start to her collegiate career."
Kristen Witchey, a sophomore defender, also scored her first career goal as did sophomore transfer Channing Perea.
It all started with Allard, though, in the 21st minute. She curled in a free kick from the left side that sailed over Riverhawk keeper Deb Hill and into the net untouched, giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead.
"I think that one was just luck," said Allard.
Just nine minutes later, Allard nearly did it again. Only this time, her corner kick banged off the far post and fell to the feet of Witchey, who easily tucked in her first-ever goal.
The game remained a two-goal game until the 69th minute when Perea cleaned up a loose ball in the box and gave the Lancers a 3-0 lead.
Then in the 80th minute, Allard found herself in the middle of another goal as she played a perfect through ball down the middle to Amanda Lammers, who ran onto it and one-touched it past Hill.
"Most of my job is to move off the ball to creating space for others, and then help my teammates get opportunities to score," said Allard.
The Lancers outshot the Riverhawks, 21-3, including a 13-1 margin in the first half alone. Nicoline Jorgensen needed to make just one save for the clean sheet.
"This was a very good start," said St. Clair. "The players have been working hard in training camp, and we have a nice mix of experience and youth, and they worked well together today."
The Lancers travel to Carson, Calif., Saturday to take on Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m.
