RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Kylee Nicassio made history Saturday, and in the process she helped California Baptist University run its unbeaten streak to six streak with a 3-0 win over Dominican in a Pacific West Conference game.
Nicassio had a hand in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on the game's first goal. Her second strike came in the 86th minute and was her 40th career goal, making her just the fifth player in program history to reach the 40-goal mark.
She is just eight goals away from tying the program career record.
"Kylee is invaluable, and she was very good on the finishing end today and is getting better," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "She's one of many dynamic players we have, but she brings a dimension to the game that is hard to find. She can create for herself, but she can also create for others, and that's exactly what we saw today."
The Lancers dominated from start to finish, out-shooting the Penguins, 26-4, including a 17-2 advantage in the first 45 minutes. They have had 20 shots or more in seven of eight games this year.
Nicassio nearly scored three times. In the 16th minute, she ripped a shot from the left side just outside the area that banged off the crossbar. It fell right to the feet of Kimberly Allard, who headed in her team-leading seventh goal of the year to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, it was all Nicassio, who settled a ball and ripped a shot from virtually the same spot 30 yards out just inside the far post to double up the Lancer advantage.
Nicassio then completed the scoring with just five minutes left. Channing Perea booted a ball out of the Lancers' area all the way to midfield where a running Nicassio tracked it down, beat a defender into the box and left-footed a low shot past Penguin keeper Megan Herring and into the net.
It was her sixth goal of the season.
Nicoline Jorgensen needed to make just one save as she and the Lancer defense collected their fifth clean sheet of the season.
"It's always nice to win, but it's even better when you win playing well," said St. Clair. "We weren't sharp Tuesday, but the girls did a good job just going back to work. They played simple today and got after it."
The win moves the Lancers to 6-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 PacWest. The Penguins fall to 2-4, 0-2. These two teams play each other again Monday at 1:30 p.m.
