Daelyn Paul provided the lone highlight for the Lancers, scoring in the 18th minute to put her team up 1-0, but the Lancers couldn't hold on, getting outscored 3-0 the rest of the way.
"Daelyn's goal was tremendous, with a great setup by Kelly Jenks," said CBU Head Coach Kristen St. Clair. "I don't believe the score reflects how close the match really was. We created some great attacking oportunities, but we need to be sharper on finishing those chances."
The Lancers actually held the lead for much of the opening half, but gave up a goal in the 44th minute to enter the break even at 1-1.
Jani Carmona-Urbano scored her second goal of the day in the 68th minute for the Coyotes and then Taylor Silva added another in the 77th minute to put the home team up for good.
Kelly assisted on the goal for CBU, playing a ball in to Paul in front of the goal who then buried a shot to the keeper's left. It was Paul's first goal of the season and her first in a Lancer jersey after transferring from Saint Mary's.
CBU was out-shot 17-9 in the game. Six of CSUSB's shots were on target while four were on goal for the Lancers. Carmona-Urbano took a total of nine shots, putting four on target, while Paul and Bernadette Witz took three shots a piece for CBU.
"In the second half we were uncharacteristically inconsistent with our execution and performance," said St. Clair. "We weren't as sharp or efficient as we needed to be today and against good teams that's something you have to be. We'll learn from this game and go back to work tomorrow as we prepare for Saturday's game and conference play next week."
The Lancers fall to 0-1-1 on the season, while CSUSB moves to 1-0-1. CBU is back in action Saturday when it travels to Claremont Mudd-Scripps.
