CONOVER, N.C. — It was not a coincidence California Baptist University added the Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational to its schedule this year. The Lancers hope to work their way back to the Rock Barn Golf and Spa course at the end of the season, as it will serve as the site of the 2015 NCAA Division II Championships.
CBU finished 18th at the national championship preview Tuesday, with freshmen Greg Gonzalez and Kavan Eubank tying for the team lead again. The Lancers shot a 632 in all after shooting 312 Monday and 320 Tuesday. Seventh-ranked Chico State won the team and individual titles, as Lee Gearhart took home medalist honors with a 139 (68, 71) and the Wildcats ended with a 590 (296, 294).
After shooting 74s the day before, Gonzalez and Eubank matched each other again with 79s to finish tied for 30th on the individual leaderboard. Sophomores Tai Kuida (82, 82) and Tyler Miller (84, 80) both tied for 64th in the standings with identical 164s. Senior Neil Hand finished 101st with a collective 171 (82, 89).
The Lancers take a break before resuming action in February at the Folino Invitational on the 16th.
